GREETINGS FROM ARGY'S CUBBY with a view of the STATE HOUSE DOME at the

THIS NEWSLETTER is being delivered a few days early because of the
holiday.  I appreciate the inspiration you give students each day in
your classrooms and schools know that long after they leave what you've
shared with them will be remembered.  Thank you so much for the
important work you do and your dedication to arts education.  Best

ARTS NEWS - GREAT NEWS!!!
*	I am thrilled to announce that the ARTS EDUCATION webpage at the
Department of Education is now available at
http://www.maine.gov/education/lres/vpa/ or you can access it through
the MLR page at http://www.maine.gov/education/lres/pei/index.html
		Please book mark the first link since the information
will be changing periodically as new information and resources become
available.
*	On April 6 and 7, 2008 Maine Learning Technology Initiative
(MLTI) is sponsoring "Arts, Innovation and Creativity" Institute at the
Samoset in Rockport.  We are looking for presenters who are interested
in facilitating a workshop that includes a connection between one or
more of the arts with one or more Maine Learning Results content that
uses technology.  The Call for Presenters form is attached and needs to
be returned by January 10th.  This is a great opportunity to share the
good work you do in your classrooms throughout Maine.
*	You might remember the greeting card contest that Prudent
Publishing Company was sponsoring that I had announced in Newsletter
#20.  Two days I sent out a special notice letting you know Maine
students were ineligible.  Well, I am thrilled to let you know that, in
fact (after many emails and phone calls), Maine students are eligible
for the $10,000 scholarship. Here is the information as I had originally
listed it:
$10,000 SCHOLARSHIP
The 1st annual Create-A-Greeting-Card Scholarship is for students
starting at age 14.  All high school, college and university students
are eligible.  The design can be created in photography, graphic design
or fine arts.  The submission date is January 15, 2008.  I realize there
is not much time but f\or more information please go to

OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS
*	Maine Alliance for Arts Education (MAAE) is pleased to announce
an opportunity for Maine high school and early- college music students.
The National Symphony and the Kennedy Center Education Department in
Washington DC, with whom MAAE is affiliated, have selected Maine as one
of the states to send a student to the 4-week National Symphony
Orchestra Summer Music Institute. The student selected will receive a
full scholarship, all expenses paid, for the institute which includes
private lessons, chamber music coaching, performance opportunities in
the DC area, master classes and seminars, all with members of the
National Symphony Orchestra, as well as participation in the NSO Summer
Music Institute Orchestra with students from all over the country.

*	The Brewer Trophy Aviation Education Association is sponsoring a
"Design an Aviation Stamp".  There are three age categories and a
variety of topics for stamp themes.  For details please go to

OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEACHERS
*	Maine Art Educators Association member's art exhibit at L/A
College in Lewiston.  Delivery dates: Friday, Jan. 4, 3-6 p.m. and
Saturday, Jan. 5, 10-4, or by earlier arrangement.    Dates of exhibit:
January 21 - April 5.  Reception: 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Friday, Jan. 25, 2008
(snow date: Friday, February 1, 2008).  Please contact Robin with

*	Participate in NCTA's "Teaching East Asia Seminar".  The
consortium is planning for the next decade of advancing the study of
East Asia in American schools. Please apply immediately. For application

*	Here are two professional development opportunities to learn
more about  professional learning communities:  "Blazing a Trail
Together: Understanding and using professional learning communities to
support a learning culture" and "Charting a Course: Understanding and

OPPORTUNITY FOR ARTIST/EDUCATOR
South Bristol School is holding an Artist-in-Residency program the week
of June 9-13th.  The program, themed "Discovering Beauty," will present
daily classes to the 76 students and will culminate in a public
presentation on Friday afternoon.  Two artists are needed.  For more
