I have been in Arizona for a gathering of my colleagues from the other states to work on the National Core Arts Standards. We had 3 days of very productive meetings. I hope you will take the time to read the blog posts on some of that work and also the comments on 'Media Arts' from your colleagues across Maine. Thank you to the 9 Maine arts educators who applied to be writers of the next iteration of the standards. I am taking a few days to vacation in AZ where I've seen contrasts in the weather, 92 degrees, rain, and yesterday sleet and snow. What fun!

You can access the archived Maine Arts Assessment Initiative webinar from Nov. 3rd at
http://stateofmaine.adobeconnect.com/p503tmav5i3/ Thank you to Catherine Ring and Rob Westerberg for the great job they did facilitating and for guests Jay Collier, and teacher leaders MaryEllen Schaper and Shannon Campbell for sharing their experiences and knowledge! The meeting plan is posted at http://www.maine.gov/education/lres/vpa/assessment.html that goes with the archived webinar.

I invite you to exhibit your students artwork at the Maine Department of Education. At the culmination of each exhibit we have an arts celebration with the student artists and performing artists from the school/district. Also, parents and administrators are invited to join the First Lady, state board chair, and the Commissioner of Education at the Blaine House. If you are interested please contact me at argy.nestor at maine.gov and I will send you the details. Thanks for considering joining this statewide arts education celebration!

A request from music teacher Clara Hargrove: "We have always held concerts in the afternoon at my school. Parents take off time from work to attend. I have had many parents ask me to change it to the evening so it is more convenient to attend. Some of my colleagues want to attend/participate but that they will have to come back to stay with their kids for the concert and are not contracted to do so. Thanks for your help in providing feedback on how you've handle this. Email Clare directly at chargrove at rsu18.org with feedback.

Please check out the latest blog posts at http://meartsed.wordpress.com. Thank you to those who have contributed information for the blog. If anyone would like to write a blog post please contact me.
