The air has turned a bit nippy, the leaves are gone and I love this time of year for being able to see deep into and through the woods. Between the weather and Thanksgiving coming up on Thursday I am reminded of how much I have to be grateful for. I will be spending Thanksgiving this year with my 93 year old Mother. From elementary school through high school graduation, my Mom and Dad started our Thanksgiving Day's at the high school football game. From elementary school days I have fond memories of cheering for my brothers as they ran down the field. When I got to high school I was so proud to participate as a member of the band front. Before we left for the game the turkey would go into the oven and we'd return home to the smell filling the house. My favorite part of the meal was the sweet potatoes made with orange juice, brown sugar and topped with marshmallows. The feelings of "family" on Thanksgiving are vivid. I no longer attend football games but I do make the sweet potatoes the same way!

I hope that you have memories or are making memories with family and friends this year on Thanksgiving. Whether you are with family, strangers or by yourself please know that I appreciate what you do for students and arts education!

Collecting Info
In May of 2011 the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston announced that the Lunder Foundation of Portland had provided a gift to the museum offering free admittance to Maine students. The museum is gathering testimonials/quotations from teachers and/or their students who have taken advantage of the opportunity. If you have participated in the program please email Willamarie Moore at WMoore at mfa.org. If you'd like to read more about the offering please go to http://www.boston.com/news/local/maine/articles/2011/05/24/foundation_gives_maine_students_pass_to_boston_mfa/?s_campaign=8315
