Happy August! I hope your month is off to a great start. I know many arts teachers in the county are busy preparing classrooms for their start in a few days. I have received emails from other parts of the state of teachers getting ready as well. Thank you for your thoughtfulness in going about your "summer work". The summer has provided us many opportunities to be outside enjoying some glorious weather! I hope you've had the chance to do your favorite summer activities!

Since I emailed last I have been very busy with the Maine Arts Assessment Initiative (MAAI). The preparation, the institute itself, and the follow up work from it have been time consuming and very rewarding for me and all the participants. From all reports from the 40 participants, mostly arts teachers leaders, it was a success! As follow-up for the teacher leaders, they are preparing workshops that will take place throughout the state during this school year, 2012-13. Watch in the blog http://meartsed.wordpress.com/ and on the Maine Department of Education arts education assessment page http://www.maine.gov/education/lres/vpa/assessment.html for information on these workshops. There will be opportunities in your region as well as mega-regional workshops so you will have multiple opportunities for professional development to learn from your colleagues. If you missed the arts education webinar series from the last school year you can access the archives with their meeting plans to use independently or with colleagues at your school. You can lead these sessions with all the information provided on the assessment page. We certainly are fortunate in Maine to have many dedicated arts educators willing to share their knowledge. Thank you to these teacher leaders! You can see a photo of almost all of these individuals on today's blog post.

Below are the latest blog posts, as you can see most of them are about the institute and can be found at http://meartsed.wordpress.com/
