I hope you spent July 4th doing something fun and relaxing to help celebrate our country's birthday. I am just back from vacation in which everyday was a wonderful treat! You can read some about my vacation on yesterday's blog post called "Back from Vacation!"
Today's blog post called "Another Arts Teachers' Story: Rebecca Wright" provides you with one more story about a teacher leader from the Maine Arts Assessment Initiative.

Speaking of the initiative, I am in full swing working with the leadership team planning for the summer institute. We have 20 new teacher leaders and 15 returning from next year. They are busy answering questions and having online conversations around assessment, leadership, and technology.

Next week Catherine Ring and I travel to Denver, CO to a national arts assessment conference at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. We will be presenting what we've learned with our Maine Arts Assessment Initiative. I will provide information and what we learn at the conference on the blog.

At the Department we are working on LD 1422, the high school proficiency graduation bill which requires that students graduate starting in 2017 showing proficiency of the standards. We are also having conversations around teacher effectiveness. The writing teams for the national arts standards met during the end of June. I will be doing a blog post on that information to keep you updated.

I hope you are enjoying your summer vacation and the glorious weather we are having in Maine!

Make it a great day,
