I know this is the last couple of days for some schools and others are out for summer vacation! I hope your summer plans include some rest and relaxation and the opportunity to refuel your teaching engine! There are so many wonderful professional development opportunities going on all over the state and also across the country. Whether your professional development is taking place on a college campus, online, hands-on, or in some other fashion, I'd love to hear about how you are taking advantage of the summer to gain and expand on your knowledge. I've heard from some of you and invite others to email me. Whatever you do, I trust it will be positive!

Summer work
I will take some vacation this summer but Department employees work throughout. The Maine Arts Assessment Initiative (MAAI) summer institute will be happening in about a month for 4 days at MECA when 35 teacher leaders will gather for professional development. Catherine Ring and I plan to go to Denver to present at the national conference on arts assessment. At the Department we will be working on LD 1144 and the teacher effectiveness work. I might be asking you for your ideas on both of these through the arts ed list-serv and blog so please be sure and take time to read the blog all summer.

Summer communication
I will continue to communicate but starting July 1st the Tuesday email will be sent every two weeks for the summer. If you have a different email address you'd like me to add for you just let me know argy.nestor at maine.gov. The blog posts will continue daily. If you have ideas for a blog post and would like to contribute please email me. Below are the recent blog posts. Our teacher leaders series from Phase 1 of the MAAI Another Teachers Stories are coming to a pause in a few weeks and the Phase 2 teacher leaders stories will be added next school year. A new series will start next year that will include student stories. If you have a student whose story should be told, please email me. Other ideas are stewing for the blog so stay tuned. I will certainly keep you posted on the national standards work progressing on schedule with the document draft due out in September. Your feedback will be needed. I appreciate your feedback since the information is to assist you in your important work of teaching!
