The forsythia is turning green, the tulips are bright red, the grass has been mowed twice, and the black flies are around but not yet biting at my home. I hope you've had a chance to get outside and enjoy Spring as much as I am!

Maine Arts Assessment Initiative
In the next few days the second phase of Teacher Leaders will be announced in a blog post; another wonderful group of teachers have applied. Just a reminder: YOU can keep updated on the initiative at http://maineartsassessment.pbworks.com. Regional workshops continue to happen with a listing at http://www.maine.gov/education/lres/vpa/assessment.html. On that same page you can access the archived webinars and the last one will happen on May 23rd with Commissioner Bowen as the guest. Please plan to attend!

MLTI Student Conference
Many music teachers attended Steve Garton's professional development workshop in many locations around the state since January. The 9th annual student conference takes place on May 24th on the UMaine conference. If you've never attended this year from the beginning to the end, "this is celebration of the arts - and this year MUSIC will be pervasive!" Much of the conference has creativity at the heart and the Block 3 Uber session will feature over 1,000 students playing an original composition on the MLTI devices. It's all about MUSIC http://www.maine.gov/mlti/studentconference/uber.shtml. Other highlights:
Block 2 sessions are loaded up with GarageBand events: http://www.maine.gov/mlti/studentconference/sblock2.shtml
One of the doorprizes this year is huge for arts performance folks: "New this year - NESCom (New England School of Communications) will offer a great door prize to some lucky student conference attendee! The winner of this drawing will have the chance to bring "The Trailer," that's right, the very vehicle and staff that makes the MLTI Student Conference come to life on the big screen, the crew and equipment that makes the Maine High School Basketball Tournament shine each year on MPBN - to their school to cover a sporting, dramatic, or musical event! Your school will be left with a professional quality video of the event. Good luck!"
Please try to attend on your own, bring students, or join the team who is attending from you school! For more information and to register please go to http://www.maine.gov/mlti/studentconference/.
