MAINE DOE ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Screensaver Challenge: Over the last nine years, the MLTI device has featured screen savers featuring outstanding student works of art (twenty each year). Please consider submitting your students' artwork for this competition. Artwork submissions are due January 22, 2018. You can find the guidelines<http://maine.gov/doe/mlti/student/artchallenge/guidelines/index.html> for submission on our website. The students whose artwork is selected will have their artwork featured on the Big Screen at the MLTI Student Conference<http://www.maine.gov/mlti/studentconference/index.shtml>. The 20 artists will be receiving free conference registration and their artwork will be made available as a download for either a screensaver or background image on every 2018-2019 MLTI devices. Student's artwork will be printed, displayed, and celebrated at the Department of Education during the summer of 2018.
Bangor Symphony Orchestra Young People's Concert: The BSO invites students in grades 3-8 to attend this year's Young People's Concerts at the Collins Center for the Arts, Monday, May 21st, 2018 at 9:45am and 11:30am. Creative collaborative theater workshop: Maine Alliance for Arts Education presents a workshop with playwright and teaching artist Cathy Plourde about creating a play through group improvisation - no scriptwriting. 2018 Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative University Scholarships Applications: American Theatre Wing is pleased to announce that they are now accepting applications for the 2018 Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative University Scholarships. Through these scholarships, The Wing is investing in direct support for underserved public high school seniors to foster a future generation of theatre-makers that reflects the diversity and dynamism of America as a whole. Scholarships of up to $10,000, renewable for four years, will be given to high school students in grade 12 who demonstrate need, talent, and interest to attend a four-year university theatre program. The student's area of focus can be in any aspect of theatre from performance, to design, to writing, to stage management, and others. The deadline to apply for the 2018 University Scholarships is January 22. Portland Conservatory of Music: Maine pianists, ages 12-18, are invited to apply to the Ocy L. Downs Competition to be held March 24, 2018. The Winner will receive a monetary award of $500 and an invitation to present a solo Noonday Concert in Portland, Maine. Special awards for exceptional performances in five historical periods will receive a $50 prize. Application deadline is March 1, 2018. Know Your Orchestra! voucher program: encourages students to become acquainted with classical music and their home orchestra. This program allows up to 4 children 18-and-under to attend BSO Masterworks Concerts for just $4 when accompanied by up to 2 adults, who can receive $14 tickets. Maine Art Education Association Spring Conference: Professional Development to GO!; Ashland District School, April 7th. BONUS Option: Friday - Join MAEA on a coach bus that will drive the 95 corridor picking up eager and committed Art Educators. The mile markers will fly bye as we engage in mobile professional development and art making in this pre-conference event as we journey to grow with our colleagues in Aroostook County
MAINE Powered By TEACH TO LEAD SUMMIT: Monday, April 9th at Husson University. We are excited to announce a collaboration between the United States Department of Education, the Maine Department of Education, Husson University, and the Maine Teach to Lead Teacher Leadership Committee to host the first Maine Powered By Teach to Lead Summit. The summit is a unique opportunity for teams of teachers and administrators to develop concrete plans to solve problems in their schools and districts and to network with other teachers from across our state. Teams can share teacher-led work happening across Maine. This event offers time away from your district, allowing team members to delve deeply into the problem-solving process.
