Join the Visual and Performing Arts Book Club!: Want to discuss and pursue what's next in creativity and arts education? Want to read a great book connected to the arts? Want to connect with colleagues across the state about new ideas and possibilities for practice? Beginning in February I will be hosting Fresh Chapters: Reading and discussing new ideas in the arts, creativity, and education. MLTI Screensaver Challenge: For the past 8 years the Maine Learning Technology Initiative has provided the opportunity for students to submit their artwork to be considered for the MLTI devices. Vans Custom Culture Competition: Calling all arts educators: the Vans Custom Culture design competition is open for registration. The competition is open to U.S. high schools-both public and private-but there are a limited number of slots, so make sure that schools in your region register quickly! Winning schools will receive grants to fund the schools' arts education programs-up to $50,000. Arts Education Advocacy Day: March 8, 2017.  The Maine Alliance for Arts Education (MAAE) and its community arts organization partners around the state are inviting arts teachers to send their most enthusiastic students to meet one-on-one with their elected representatives at the Statehouse. Dance Performances and Discussion every Friday at Noon: NYU's Tisch School of the Performing Arts and The 92Y Harkness Dance Center provide FREE livestreams every FRIDAY AT NOON featuring performances and discussion of work choreographed by emerging, mid-career and legacy artists. Colby College New Docent Training: An intensive one-week training course with instruction in art history, teaching, and storytelling techniques is scheduled for Monday, January 16 through Friday, January 20, 2017, from 10am to 4pm each day. 2017 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards: The President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, is accepting applications for the 2017 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards. The twelve award-winning programs this year will each receive $10,000 and an invitation to accept their award at a ceremony at the White House. After-school and out-of-school-time arts and humanities programs, also known as Creative Youth Development programs, are encouraged to apply. Maine Arts Assessment Initiative Mega Regional Workshops: Now in its sixth phase, the Maine Arts Leadership Initiative has 81 teacher leaders representing PK-12 arts educators and 4 teaching artist leaders. The new teacher leaders attending a 3-day workshop at USM this summer used an Individual Action Plan model, and returning teacher leaders used a Logic Model, to create a plan of action for this school year. These educators will be sharing their research and ideas during the following mega-regional sessions: (Registration opens Oct. 31st and the cost is $25.00 and contact hours are available.)
