Free Modern Band PD for Maine Music Teachers!: A special Modern Band workshop is being featured at the Maine Music Educators Association Conference in support of Maine Kids Rock! Lights, Camera, Action: Thursday, February 22, Nokomis High School will host the 2nd Annual LCA.  Students Gr.4-12 select from near 50 Workshops and a Performance or Stage Craft Opportunity. There is a special morning program  Gr. K-3. Choose acting, basketball, art, computer technology, stage combat, "Chopped" cooking contest, stage makeup, pottery, beginning guitar, dance, lacrosse, broadcasting, archery and so much more. General Music Workshop: "Clapping Songs, Games, and Dances from Around the World," with Aimee Pfitzner, Friday, March 16, 2018, at Monmouth Middle School. The Workshop is FREE (sponsored by the Maine Chapter AOSA). You will receive a certificate with 5 hours of in-service time listed. You can pre-order lunch (sandwich, chips, drink & dessert) for $10. Maine Academy of Modern Music (MAMM): Registration period is now open for the 2018 MAMM SLAM: Maine's High School Rock Off! The MAMM SLAM is a statewide competition designed to provide young, career-minded musicians with an educational platform through which to gain performance and business experience, professional acumen, industry exposure, and promotional and career networking opportunities. Mindfulness through Nature Journaling, Lobster Maineiah - An Interdisciplinary Approach, and Watercolors Across the Curriculum: The Maine Department of Marine Resources will offer three, residential, professional development workshops at its Burnt Island Lighthouse this summer. Raku Workshop: This workshop will cover the general history, theory and practice of raku firing, so you will be able to bring this firing technique and process back to your students! Studio Manager, Reeder Fahnestock, will teach raku firing techniques which will be put into practice using the Watershed raku kiln, as well as show participants how to build their own raku kilns. American Bar Association Art Contest: Each year, the American Bar Association (ABA) hosts an art contest for students in grades nine through 12 (or the equivalent) in the United States.  Students may compete as individuals or in groups.  The ABA is now accepting submissions of artwork for the 2018 Law Day Art Contest until March 31, 2018. Plant Kindness and Gather Love: is a resource for educators that teaches about Maine, island life, nature and Acadia National Park. Plant Kindness and Gather Love is an original Maine Musical that integrates literacy, history, science and the arts. Content is suitable and adaptable for students in grades K-5 and includes 10 songs, stories, a reader's theater script, student activities, movements/dance, and more. Plant Kindness and Gather Love will be offered as an interactive 2 day teacher workshop at the Schoodic Institute, ANP on July 2-3, 2018. Participants will be granted 15 credit hours for the 2 day workshop, which includes other ANP outdoor activities. Families are welcome too, and may stay on through the 4th of July.

Berridge Summer Theatre Opportunity: They are seeking scholarship applications from passionate, enthusiastic and energetic young actors age 14-19. There are two types of awards this year: a Merit Scholarship in a set amount of $1500 off tuition and a Financial Need Scholarship which is a flexible award of up to 70% of the program tuition based on financial information submitted by the applicant. Bangor Symphony Orchestra Young People's Concert: The BSO invites students in grades 3-8 to attend this year's Young People's Concerts at the Collins Center for the Arts, Monday, May 21st, 2018 at 9:45am and 11:30am. Portland Conservatory of Music: Maine pianists, ages 12-18, are invited to apply to the Ocy L. Downs Competition to be held March 24, 2018. The Winner will receive a monetary award of $500 and an invitation to present a solo Noonday Concert in Portland, Maine. Know Your Orchestra! voucher program: encourages students to become acquainted with classical music and their home orchestra.
