From Patsy.Dunton at maine.gov Thu May 7 11:45:10 2009 From: Patsy.Dunton at maine.gov (Dunton, Patsy) Date: Thu, 7 May 2009 11:45:10 -0400 Subject: [Englishlanguagearts] Hearing notice Message-ID: <32E5C6B0B949584D9B6168C5F727916B047BCA8A@SOM-TEAQASMAIL1.som.w2k.state.me.us> This has certainly been a busy legislative season. Diana and I just wanted to make sure that you are aware of an upcoming hearing that may impact your work. The hearing for LD 1325, also known as the graduation bill, is scheduled for 2:00 on Monday in room 202 of the State Office Building. This is your opportunity to tell the Education Committee what you think of the bill. In case you have never done this before, here are a few pointers: * Please know that a hearing is not a discussion. The committee simply listens to statements so there is generally not an exchange of ideas but a presentation of thoughts. * It is helpful to prepare your statement ahead of time. You should write what you want to say, be succinct but include the details. This will be read by the committee, although generally not during the hearing. If you are bringing a written testimony, you should have 25 copies. * Listen to the testimony from the start. If many people show up, time may be limited. You will be directed to state only what is new or different from what has been previously stated. * Make sure you are familiar with what is in the bill. Review the text before the hearing.
