I know you are busy as we complete the first quarter of the school year
and I hope all is going well. Here is just a quick note about upcoming
events and deadlines:
NECAP workshops: Portland is full, Brewer is filling fast. We will be
closing registration as we reach capacity. If you are interested, go to
http://www.state.me.us/education/lres/scitech/documents/Nov_Assmt_Worksh
op_Invite_v2.pdf right away. If you cannot register, let me know.
After these workshops, I will send a request to all of you to
participate in a survey about your professional development needs so I
can plan accordingly. Please be thinking about what I can do for you.
I am particularly interested in what I can do to support high school
teachers as we have no specific workshop planned at this time. Of
course, you can always send me an email.
Common Core State Standards, also known as National Standards: The next
iteration is due to be released in early December. This will include
k-12 articulation. Again, we will have 30 days to respond. I am
organizing an opportunity to evaluate and create a state response to the
document here in Augusta on December 21st. I will have a limited number
of seats and hope to get broad representation. I cannot pay travel, sub
reimbursement, or stipends, but I can provide lunch. We will work all
day, ending at 3:00. If you are interested in participating, please let
me know (and who could resist such an enticing invitation?).

Another opportunity:
Maine's Alternate Assessment Seeks Educators for Item Review/Bias
Committees
Would you like to participate in an Item Review Committees or Bias
Committees? Maine PAAP is seeking educators who would like to be
considered for this important work. Previous experience with the PAAP
is not required. The committees will be comprised of core content and
special education experts from elementary, middle and high school, as
well as administrators and other specialists. These experts will be
grouped by content area and grade level.
Participants are randomly selected based on the content area being
reviewed. Not all individuals are selected every time.
Recertification credits can be earned with pre-approval through your
local support team. Please check with your local support teams to see
if you are eligible to earn recertification credits. For every 15 hours
you participate on one of these committees you can earn 1 credit (up to
45 hours can be earned for a total of 3 credits). Preauthorization is
required to earn credits.
Please use the following link to sign up to be part of the Item Review
and/or Bias Committee List.
