Please find attached the registration brochure for the spring farm to
school conference. The press release is below. See you at Chewonki March
28!
Best, Amy W. and the FARMS Team.
Would you like to learn more about getting nutritious, local foods into
the mouths and minds of Maine school children? If so, please attend the
F.AR.M.S. (Focus on Agriculture in Rural Maine Schools) Farm-to-School
Conference on March 28 from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm at the Chewonki Center for
Environmental Education in Wiscasset. F.A.R.M.S is an organization
which connects classrooms, cafeterias, local farms, and communities. The
mission of FARMS is to educate students about good nutrition and the
role of local farms in promoting healthy, sustainable communities as
well as to promote and facilitate farm to institution purchasing.
F.A.R.M.S. is dedicated to food security and to rebuilding a healthy
food system.
The objective of the March 28 conference is to bring together farmers
and other local food producers with educators and school administrators,
school foodservice personnel, parents, students, community organizers,
legislators and policymakers in order to replicate and expand new and
established farm-to-school projects and to build popular support for
bringing local foods into schools as an educational, economic
development and community health strategy. The conference will provide
an excellent venue for networking, story sharing and training, with an
inspiring keynote from Vermont FEED (Food Education Every Day)'s Dana
Hudson. Come enjoy a local foods lunch. Make your cafeteria a classroom,
support family farms, preserve farmland, increase economic vitality, and
improve health: get involved with farm to school.
