<p class=MsoNormal style='text-indent:.5in'><font size=2 face="Times New Roman"><span
style='font-size:11.0pt'>I expect you have all seen the colorful new
agriculture license plates on <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Maine</st1:State></st1:place>
highways (and maybe even on your own vehicle!). Part of the proceeds from the
sale of these license plates provides ongoing funding for agricultural education
in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Maine</st1:State></st1:place>
schools. The legislation that authorized this also established the Maine Ag in
the Classroom COUNCIL. I emphasize Council because it is a new and separate
entity from the Maine Agriculture in the Classroom ASSOCIATION which has done
wonderful, wonderful work for the past several years with a shoestring budget
to promote agriculture education here in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Maine</st1:State></st1:place>.
In light of our new structure, coupled with funds from not only the agriculture
license plate but also from unwavering donations of our program supporters (<b><i><span
style='font-weight:bold;font-style:italic'>we still need each and every one of
you</span></i></b><i><span style='font-style:italic'>!</span></i>), we are
excited about the prospects of taking this program to new and greater
heights. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
11.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='text-indent:.5in'><font size=2 face="Times New Roman"><span
style='font-size:11.0pt'>The Council is charged by the Legislature “to
promote an understanding of the food and fiber system in the State and the
nation through the infusion of agricultural concepts into primary, secondary
and postsecondary curricula.” The Council is working to collect the best
proven, effective, programs and experiences as well as new ideas on how the mission
can be met. <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>We need to learn from you
and others how to best use our resources to accomplish this.</span></b> We
will have a public meeting on April 2, 2008 at 2:30 PM in Room 319 at the
Deering Building (sometimes referred to as the Maine Department of Agriculture
Building) of the AMHI Complex in Augusta, Maine. We hope that you or a
representative of your organization will attend the meeting to provide us with
information about programming ideas and funding mechanisms that the Council may
want to consider going forward. Written submissions are certainly welcome
as well and may be sent via either e-mail or conventional mail to my address
which you will find in the header of this letter.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

that you are here to attend the Maine Ag in the Classroom meeting and she will
