Al Dickey presentation Article from his school, regarding various certifications. Each program has National standards and assessments that match these standards. Foundation standards were distributed and discussed. He also asks that members complete a form that indicates if members use any state or national assessments. Assessments for Standards: Mary B. talked about Applied Technology options and how in her community, local facilities paid for the program. Group price for greater than 10 schools; aligned with National Standards. Information provided for interested members. ? Do teachers have to be Nationally certified to have students sit for exam? Contact National Consortium to find out ???????? RE: National Health Certification: Members need to develop a portfolio, attending a National Conference, attending a 3 day seminar with the National Consortium. WHO IS PAYING FOR MEMBERS FOR NATIONAL CONSORTIUM? 2. Elaine Briggs presentation: The new CNA curriculum was approved with minor changes. Paperwork should be released in the next couple of weeks, anticipation of a public meeting in December. Please attend if you have concerns about the curriculum. The meeting is 12/4/08 at 3pm at the board office. The board office is located on Capital Street, next to CVS pharmacy. Elaine Briggs, secretary for DOE, is MHOEA contact for C.N.A. testing, questions, etc. Feedback on CNA test: so instructors would know what areas to ? New curriculum: test should be electronic! 3. This is a multi-step process and there are several more steps before completion. Those steps will be taken by the Board of Nursing and are: (a) Notifying interested parties (expected to happen early November) (b) Holding a public hearing at the Board of Nursing office (tentatively set for December 4th) (c) Obtaining approval from the Legislature As soon as the Board of Nursing releases more information, I will pass it along to the list. The next CNA Train the Trainer will take place on January 15, 2009. I am finalizing ATM arrangements in order to cut down on participant travel. I expect to post details to the list and www.schoolswork.org by the end of October. I was under the impression that the listserve was for Health Science Instructors and the intention was to facilitate communication, and keep instructors informed about meetings etc. I spoke to Elaine Briggs today and she has clarified to me that there are many parties on this listserve who are not instructors or connected to CTE, but have an interest in our programs. In the future I will include information in the subject line as to the purpose of the communication. Some of you may want to have your names removed from the listserve. We will continue to use it to communicate about issues that affect our programs. As always, I am available at WCTC (342-5231 ext 123). Below is a table which shows the spread of scores: Grand Total Score 50-69 19 70-79 89 80-89 214 90-100 71 Grand Total 393 My analysis revealed two major points: * Students need to read the question and possible answers carefully and choose the one, best answer. * Terminology is where many mistakes are being made especially when one possible answer is the "opposite" of another, such as systolic/diastolic or anterior/posterior. I hope you find this helpful. I am sorry to tell you that we have decided to cancel the Tech Update we had planned for 11/10/08. The reasons are as follows: 1.) Only 13 teachers signed up to attend. 2.) It is our only opportunity for the entire school year to get together and: a.) It is too early to plan our summer conference. b.) Key MHOEA members cannot attend. c.) We do not have all the answers we need with respect to NCHSTE standards testing. d.) The meeting on the new MSBN CNA curriculum is in December. So .. I am proposing that we plan to meet relatively early in 2009 when we can most effectively utilize time to address the issues stated above. I am however concerned about the new instructors who were present at the meeting in Lewiston and need support in their positions. To those of you who are new I think the best way for you to get the help/assistance/answers is to tell your director that you need to spend a day with an instructor in a program near yours. Try to select a program that is comparable in size and delivery model. It is EXTREMELY HELPFUL. Also, more experienced instructors should reach out to anyone in their area who is new. New instructors can always call Elaine Briggs at CTE with specific questions. I will help you if I can. I will be in touch as soon as I can be with more information about the future tech update. Until then, have a good year and call me or write if you have questions. Patty Sheehan psheehan at msln.net -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... For new teachers, please feel free to contact me with any questions and or concerns or help with curriculum work.
