Community arts leaders, regional business owners, municipal representatives and interested members of the public are encouraged to take part in what is sure to be an interesting afternoon of discussion and brainstorming. Discussions will focus on two topics: providing local community arts leaders an opportunity to learn more about the agency's new program for building the capacity for the arts in Maine communities, and the planning of a statewide community arts conference scheduled for October 18, in Lewiston. During the meeting, Keith Ludden, community and traditional arts associate at the Maine Arts Commission, will discuss the outline of the new capacity building program. He will highlight its goals and guidelines, and review results from the first round of applications. In an effort to assist attendees, Ludden plans to distribute some examples of successful applications, demonstrating models likely to succeed the application process. The agency also seeks input on workshops to be covered at the statewide conference. The October conference, hosted by L/A Arts and the Franco American Heritage Center, will reflect the needs of the field; therefore input from attendees is of utmost important. There is no fee for attending the gathering.
