Traditional Arts Apprenticeship and Traditional Arts Fellowship Deadlines are Nearing! In every community there are very important artists who quietly do their work, with little fanfare. Traditional artists sometimes don't even think of themselves as artists, they simply practice their crafts each day preserving traditions that would otherwise be lost. The Maine Arts Commission works to support these artists and preserve traditional arts by offering Traditional Arts Apprenticeships. Traditional Arts Apprenticeships provide a stipend to master traditional artists willing to teach their art to an apprentice. The deadline for applications to the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship program is June 27, 2008. If you are a master traditional artist, preserving a traditional art that is handed down in an informal manner, or if you know of someone who practices a traditional folk art, you can find more information on the program at: http://mainearts.maine.gov/artists/traditional/index.shtml. Or call or email Keith Ludden at 207/287-2713 keith.ludden at maine.gov. Keith will be happy to talk with you. Applications for Traditional Arts Apprenticeships sometimes take a little time to develop, so don't leave it to the last minute! The Maine Arts Commission also honors one outstanding traditional arts master each year with a Traditional Arts Fellowship. The Fellowship is a major award, intended to both honor the recipient and assist them in developing their art. The deadline for applications for the Traditional Arts Fellowship is also June 27, 2008. ************************ 3.
