For more information about their programs, look at http://bearnstow.org/ . Here are some highlights: July 13-19: Ruth Grauert and Melody Ward - Mat Pilates, Improvisation, and Critique July 19: Maine Audubon Annual Loon Count and Littoral Walk July 20-26: Bebe Miller - Working Artists Retreat July 27-August 2: Susan Creitz - Sound and Movement Improvisation as Performance August 3-9: Claire Porter - Writing and Moving, a Creativity Retreat August 10-16: Jody Oberfelder - Partnering with Camera, Physical and Visual Imagination August 17-23: Janis Brenner - Moving, Sounding and Acting, Improvisation and Choreography August 24-30: Barbara Mahler - Re-education of the Body, Klein/Mahler Technique As a photographer, I'm particularly interested in Jody Oberfelder's workshop, which is described as follows: This workshop will explore how the interaction of camera and movement creates kinetic imagery. We will create dance films that will explore the relationships between movement and visual elements. We will work with physical imagination, storyboarding, and hands-on camera work, finding an individual vocabulary. Each day will include a physical morning class, followed by afternoons developing studies for film: investigating site-specific locations and choreographing for the camera to find the unique language of dance and film. All levels of experience are welcome. Video cameras recommended. JODY OBERFELDER creates emotionally and intellectually provocative work that distills the movement of every day life. She has shown her richly varied work in New York City at Dance New Amsterdam, Dixon Place, Symphony Space, PS 122; and nationally at Jacob's Pillow, MASS MoCA, The Yard, and other venues; and internationally at the Centre National de la Danse de Paris, the Belgrade Dance Festival, Serbia, the Festival of Modern Dance in Seoul, Korea, and the State Theater of Montenegro in Podorica. Jody's dance film, LineAge, received the People's Choice Award for 2007 from Cinedans. This past year Jody was selected as a 2007-2008 Joyce Resident Artist. See also www.jodyoberfelder.com . I expect the focus is more on video and dance, but look forward to a visual dialog across disciplines. First, though, I look forward to seeing the workshop happen, and know that so far enrollment has not been encouraging. Thus my posting here. Please tell others who may be interested.
