Dance Photographer Shares His Process, Amidst a Mini-Performance and open house. Dance and Dance Photography will come alive at the Lifeworks Chiropractic Center on Sunday September 14th from 2 - 4 pm. Arthur Fink, whose exhibit of dance photography there continues through September, will be speaking about his process, and dancers Jessamyn Schmidt and friends will be presenting a short piece to introduce the program. The program will begin at 2:30, and last approximately one half hour. Lifeworks Chiropractic Center is located at 202 US Route 1 in Falmouth, Maine (the "Foreside Place" building). Also on display at Lifeworks for that one afternoon will be an additional 20 framed prints which had been on display at the Bates Dance Festival, and will be part of a new traveling exhibition. The Bates Dance Festival brochure stated, "These stunning and provocative images capture the dancers at work -- warming up, taking class and rehearsing. ... Fink prefers to document the dancer's process, rather than just the finished result -- the dance performance." Autographed copies of Fink's new book of dance photographs, "Dance!", will be available for sale, along with all the framed prints. Fink received most of his formal training in master classes at the Maine Photographic Workshops, and recently had an exhibition with well known dance photographer Lois Greenfield. He has been photographer in residence at Bates Dance Festival for the past four years, runs workshops on dance photography, and is sought after by dancers and companies throughout New England. His work is owned by the Portland Museum of Art, and many private collectors, and was recently shown at the Addison Woolley Gallery in Portland. Schmidt has studied with such internationally renowned artists as Chris Aiken, Andrei Bossov, Angie Hauser, Gill Wright Miller and Sandra Mathern-Smith, and teaches modern dance and contact improvisation at the New Dance Studio and at the Open HeART Space (a collaboration with a company of girls).
