Ogunquit Hosts Free Maine Arts Commission Workshops Local artist Indhra Rajashekar will provide a demonstration of East Indian dancing as part of the Traditional Arts presentation that takes places during the Maine Arts Commission artists' workshops at the Dunaway Community Center in Ogunquit on July 23. The workshops will begin at 12:40 p.m., and continue throughout the afternoon with workshops and discussions relating to all facets of the arts. There will also be individual grant writing assistance available. Details can be found at the Maine Arts Commission's website , MaineArts.com. The workshops are free and with the exception of the Grant Doctor require no pre-registration. The three sessions in Ogunquit begin at 12:40 and continue to 5:30 p.m. They will comprise technology and marketing; contemporary art and public art; and community arts, traditional arts and arts in education. Performers Sought for fall Monmouth's Fall Production of The Mikado Auditions for The Theater At Monmouth fall production of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado will be held on Monday, July 14th at 6:30 p.m. at Cumston Hall, Monmouth. All interested singers and actors are invited to audition for Gilbert & Sullivan's The Mikado, Directed by Bill Van Horn, with Musical Direction by Marcia Gallagher. Bay Chamber Concerts Announce Award Winner Bay Chamber Concerts have announced the 2008 recipient of the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award. The winner is Israeli pianist Inon Barnatan. The Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award was established in memory of Bay Chamber Concerts' co-founder Andrew Wolf. A gifted pianist, Andrew Wolf served as artistic director of Bay Chamber for twenty-three years until his death in 1985. The Wolf Award recognizes the achievements of a dedicated pianist under the age of 40 who has made a significant contribution to chamber music. It carries a cash prize of $15,000 plus appearances at Bay Chamber Concerts. Inon (pronounced E-non) Barnatan, still in his twenties, has already proven himself an exceptional musician with a flourishing international reputation through his orchestral, recital and chamber music performances worldwide. ************************ 4. Open Waters Theatre Arts Presents Choirspeak: The Maine Woods Open Waters Theatre Arts will present CHOIRSPEAK: THE MAINE WOODS at Zero Station in Portland on July 17-19, 2008. A final, outdoor performance will take place at Baxter Woods Park in Portland on July 20. An original production detailing diverse views on the future of the North Woods in Maine, this piece was constructed from fifty-two interviews with the residents of five Maine communities. It is the goal of the project to generate community dialogue around the changing ownership and use of land in the North Woods region. In support of this objective, each performance of Choirspeak: The Maine Woods will include a post-show audience/artist discussion. Northport Music Theater to Present Three Summer Musicals in 2008 The Northport Music Theater, Midcoast Maine's Summer Music Theater, will be presenting three musicals during the summer of 2008. They are Fame Takes a Holiday by Cassandra Danz, Mary Fulham, and Warren Leight from July 2 through July 20, Closer Than Ever by David Shire and Richard Maltby, Jr., from July 30 - August 10, and Five Course Love by Greg Coffin from August 27 - September 14. Show times are Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 7:30 and Sunday matinees at 3:30. The second musical, Closer Than Ever, will also have additional matinees on Thursdays July 31 and August 7 at 3:30.
