Traditional Artists Sought The Bridgton Historical Society still has openings for exhibitors at its 17th Annual Woodworkers and Artisans Show, to be held July 7-8, 2007 at Narramissic, the society's 1797 historic farmstead in South Bridgton. The property, which consists of a historic house, barn, and a restored, functioning blacksmith shop, all set on approximately 25 acres of land with dramatic views of western Maine and the White Mountains, is an ideal setting for the event. The annual show has broadened its original focus, which was on woodworkers and cabinetmakers, but retains its emphasis on providing a relaxed atmosphere for visitors to have fun while learning about traditional crafts and early American farm life, tour the house, and purchase some of the exhibitors' wares. We're looking for fine woodworkers and cabinetmakers, wheelwrights, coopers, stone carvers, broom makers, basket makers, spinners and weavers, whittlers, blacksmiths, musical instrument makers and others. There is no charge for exhibitors. Please pass this along to anyone you know who might be interested, and contact me for further information. The Maine Arts Commission Is Coming To Fort Kent and Millinocket Are you an artist that has questions about grant writing, marketing, working with the press, or creating your own website to improve your artistic endeavors? Are you interested in community art, public art, or art in education? If so, you will have the opportunity to have all your questions answered by joining the staff of the Maine Arts Commission for an afternoon of free workshops that discuss these areas and much more. Contemporary artists, traditional artists, cultural administrators, educators, cultural entrepreneurs and community members are invited to participate. Building upon the successes of the past two years, the Maine Arts Commission is continuing this year's artME tour in Fort Kent May 2 and in Millinocket on May 3. With no need for pre-registration the workshops are open to everyone wishing to attend. The workshops in Fort Kent will take place at the University of Maine Campus beginning in the Fox auditorium at 12:40 P.M; Millinocket will host their workshops at Stearns High School beginning at 1:00 P.M. There are eight, 1-hour workshops to choose from, they are free, open, do not require pre-registration and run throughout the afternoon. The entire staff of the Maine Arts Commission will be on hand during that time to answer your questions. This is a great opportunity for people to find out more about the agency, a chance to speak with all staff members one on one about issues that concern you, and to hear about the agency's new and developing programs. All open houses will be held in accessible venues.
