[MinervaCats] Graphic Novels & the volume field

It depends--sometimes it makes more sense to catalog the individual parts
of a multi-volume set separately, and in that case, each item will get a
separate bib record, and the 245 may need a subfield |n to contain a
volume number.

That particular record (Sardine in outer space) has a problem. It looks
like it started out to be a monograph record for just one volume, but
there is an ISBN for volume 2 in the record. I am not familiar with this
title, but it's possible it could be cataloged as a serial, so that all
the volumes for this title can be attached to the bib, but in this case a
different, serial bib would need to be found or made. Minerva practice so
far has been that it's up to each library to decide whether they want to
catalog such things as monographs or serials, but one bib cannot be used
for both purposes.

On the Minerva management page, there is a little bit about cataloging
multipart sets separately or together; I don't know if it will answer any
questions for you but here it is:

Yes, putting the volume information directly in the c field will. I
notice, however, that some records put the volume information in the n
subfield of the 245 line. Which, if either, is preferable? In this, as
in so many things, we need clarity and standardizaton.
