I have been correcting errors on large print records and thought I would pass along some the recurring problems.

1. Be sure to change the MAT TYPE in the fixed field at the top of the bib record to "l" for large type. This is important to patrons who want to limit their searches by this material type.

2. Inserting the proper general materials designator in the 245 field.
    a. The gmd is |h[text (large print)].
    b. The gmd follows the main part of the title which
means it comes before :|b and /|c.
    c. There is no punctuation before the |h.
    d. There are no spaces on either side of the |h.
    e. Use care when inserting the gmd. I have
corrected a number of records with
/|h[text (large print)] or :|h[text (large print)].

3. Be sure to remove (large print) from the 300 field if it present.

4. The subject heading is 650 0 Large type books. DO NOT use Large print books.

5. Large type books should not be used as a subdivision after subject heading. For example: Mystery fiction|vLarge type books is incorrect.

You might consider adding a MACRO heading for both |h[text (large print)] and 650 0 Large type books. This is done by clicking on ADMIN at the top of the Minerva screen and selecting MARCOS. Once you have set a MARCO heading all you will need to do is hit the correct function key and the heading is automatically inserted. Either Deb Hensler or myself can help you with this if you are not sure of the procedure. It is great for quality control as well as a time saver.

Please let me know if you have questions or ideas.

Bonnie
