Apologies for being redundant in my posting on this same subject. Old
habits die hard.

Subject: [MinervaCats] Cataloging Tip

Dear Minerva catalogers,

I would like to offer you all a cataloging "tip of the week" every week (or
so!). My tip this week involves the OCLC number in bib records.

When importing a new bib record from a remote database, if you can find a
record that has both an 001 field with a number, and an 003 field stating
"OCoLC", this is a good record to choose. Please do not remove either of
these fields. However, if you select a record that has a number in the 001
and has an 003 stating something other than "OCoLC", or lacks an 003
altogether, the 001 should be removed.

Following these guidelines will help to reduce the number of invalid OCLC
numbers that are being added to the Minerva catalog. Please let me know if
you have any questions.

Thanks,

Ellen
