Catalogers,
The volume note is the subject of this week's Cataloging Tip, which I hope
to send out on Wednesday. In the meantime, if you have any questions about
the proper use of this field, please contact me.
Thanks,
Ellen

Subject: [MinervaCats] Volume v. Copy number and HP

Hi, catalogers,

So far, two libraries have put their copy number in the volume field for
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

There is a Copy number field in the item record for this purpose. DO NOT
use the volume field for copy number -- it forces the patron, when
requesting through the OPAC, to select a volume. Considering that there
are currently 147 copies of HP in Minerva, this is not good. It's
confusing to the patron and can easily cause problems since an
item-level hold will have priority over a title-level hold.

The items that had the copy number in the volume field have been fixed.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Deb
