Fall Cataloging Class Offered

 

I will be teaching a cataloging class at the Maine State Library on Tuesdays this fall. The dates are as follows: September 11 & 25, October 9 & 23, November 13 & 27, and December. 4. December 11.is reserved as a snow date. The class meets in the Studio from 9:30 to 12:30.

 

Course Outline

This is a basic cataloging course offered at no cost to Minerva libraries. Students do need to be experienced in using the Millennium cataloging system. (Contact me if anyone needs training in using the Millennium cataloging module.)

Subject headings will discussed as appropriate to each class.

September 11

            Introduction to MARC format

            Selecting and Editing Minerva Bibliographic Records 

            When to Input a New Record

September 25, October 9 and 23

            Cataloging Books: MARC 0XX - 3XX Fields

November 13

            Cataloging Sound Recordings and Video Recordings: MARC 0XX - 3XX Fields

November 27

            Cataloging Material that Is Part of a Series

            Adding Notes to Bib Records

            Adding Access Points to Bib Records: Part 1

December 4

            Adding Access Points: Part 2

            Cataloging Serial Publications

 

If anyone is interested in signing up for this class or has questions please contact me directly. The class is limited in size. We have 10 new laptops to use in class this time so you will not need to bring your own. If more than one person from the same library takes the class they may need to share a laptop.
