[MinervaCats] book & tape with missing cassettes quandary

Hi Deb

I agree with Rebecca. Catalog this as a book. I believe using the volume field in the item record for missing pieces would be appropriate if the record is for a book with a CD inside or perhaps book or sound recording accompanied by a manual and the manual is missing.

Subject: [MinervaCats] book & tape with missing cassettes quandary

  Good afternoon-

At the cataloging meeting on Friday there was discussion about putting "cassette missing" in the volume field of a book with cassette that is missing the cassette. So the item, which now is actually only a book, is listed as a sound recording with the cassette missing. That's funny enough all by itself, but since we won't shelve it with the sound recordings anymore, how will anyone find it? Please correct me if I'm wrong about this because we have quite a number of items that will be affected by this change.

We also mistakenly called books with cassettes "kits", but that's another story for another day.

                 -Debbie
