I have been very pleased by the number of libraries that have alerted me about duplicate records in the system. Please keep up the good work.
On the downside I am concerned because almost all the duplicates reported have been added in the past two months. They are not false unique records added during a download of a library's records but duplicates added because catalogers are not searching carefully enough before adding a Z39 record. I am not entirely sure what is happening because some of these records are exactly the same from 001 on down through the record.
PLEASE if you search the system by ISBN and do not find a match take time to search again by title. Some of these records have been added on the same day or the next day. Remember, you need to search Minerva every time before you go to Z39.50 and bring a record in. If you do search and do not immediately bring in a Z39 record you need to search Minerva again, even if only a few minutes have passed.
Also - take time to compare EVERY field on the record to your item but sure everything is correct.
Let me know if you have questions.
Bonnie
