As part of the arrangement between Minerva and MARCIVE for updating
authorities, newly created bib records are meant to be exported to MARCIVE
on a regular basis for overnight processing. This means that a batch of
records, created between specific dates, are sent to MARCIVE for correction
and then returned and reloaded in the Minerva catalog in 24 hours.
Since the large export to MARCIVE last November consisting of the entire
catalog was reloaded, there has been only one additional batch sent to them
for overnight processing. Unfortunately, this second export encountered
some unexpected problems that resulted in a delay in the reload process.
The delay created a problem for Minerva catalogers in that numerous bib
records that they had edited were reverted to their original form after the
reload.
We believe that the problems that arose with the prior exports will not
reoccur, and hope to establish a regular schedule for overnight processing.
On Tuesday evening, June 12, I will export another batch of bib records to
MARCIVE, and I ask that catalogers refrain from editing these bibs until I
am able to notify you that the reload was successful. These bibs will be in
the range of #b24081747 through b24133255 which is approximately any bib
record that was created between 5/08/2007 and 6/09/2007.
After this batch is reloaded, I plan to export files to MARCIVE on the 2nd
and 4th Tuesdays of every month, and hope that the processing will
be efficient enough that I will not need to give Minerva catalogers prior
notice.
Please contact me if you have any questions, and thanks for your
cooperation.
