Dear Catalogers,

I never had a chance to send to send out last week's tip, so here it is!

This is a hint that may make cataloging in Millennium a little bit easier
for you. Many of you probably already know about this, but I learned
recently that many of you have not done this before. I am sure that you are
aware that Millennium Cataloging is set up so that when you open a bib
record from the search screen, you are given the item summary display. When
I am cataloging, the first thing I want to look at is the edit screen, in
order to determine whether or not it's a record that I want to use. You can
actually change a setting to make this happen.

With MilCat open on the search screen, go to the "View" tab in the upper
left corner and click. Next, select "Record view properties." This will
open a box with several choices. "Record type" should be set at "b
Bibliographic". Next, under the heading "Retrieval view", you will notice
that "summary" is selected. Change this selection to "edit". Then click
"apply" and "ok". You have now set your preference for opening bib records
to the edit screen.

Unfortunately, this process must be repeated each time you open a session of
Millennium cataloging, but it is very convenient and worth the effort. I
hope you find this helpful.

Thanks,
Ellen
