Hi, Bonnie,
Believe it or not I am actually interested in this course!
I can't sign up for sure until I talk it over with Karen. And then
I'd like to know if anyone from the Old Town, Orono, Bangor area would be going in order to carpool.
This is normally a day I'm at EMCC. I also haven't decided whether I'm going to take a May term course or not. If you have 12 sign up who may be at a more beginning level than I they should certainly have top priority. If you have room, however, I know I could learn a lot and get many of my questions answered and feel more confident about what I'm doing.
Thanks,
Katie

Hi Everyone
I know you thought you were done with me but no such luck!
I will be offering a cataloging class for Minerva catalogers in April and May if anyone is interested. It will be in the Studio at the Maine State Library from 9:30 - 12:30 on Thursdays, April 26, May 3, 10, 17 and 24. I have reserved May 31 also in case we have to cancel one day or decide we really need 1 more class.
This class will be different than previous one that I have taught before. There will be an all new manual. We will look at books, sound recordings and video recordings. The emphasis will be:
Cataloging terms.
MARC format and its place in a bib record.
Interpretation of a bib record and determining the elements that make the difference between a good record and bad one.
Differences between book and non-book bib records.
Entering serial titles correctly.
Using Z39,50 records effectively.
Creating "new" bib records without doing original cataloging.
Adding correct access points for people, titles and subjects.
Preserving and improving the quality of the database.
There will a few laptops available. Sharing may be necessary but you may bring your own along if you wish. I would to like limit the class to 12.
Let me know as soon as possible if you are interested as this will be on first-come basis.
Contact me directly please.
