Hello Catalogers!

Now that all our authority records have been reloaded, and it is safe to
edit bibs again, it's time to resume the Author of the Week project. This
is a group effort to reduce duplicates in the Minerva catalog, and all
libraries are encouraged to participate. I would like to add a new element
to this by suggesting a Title of the Week for everyone to look at as well.

This week's author is Wright, Richard,|d1908-1960 (author of Native Son,
Black Boy, and others). Please look at your holdings and see if they can be
transferred to better bibs if possible. If your holding is truly unique,
make sure that the record has complete information.

The Title of the Week is *Physicians Desk Reference*. It has been
recommended that annual publications like this should be cataloged using a
serial record, and currently we have many bib records for individual
editions. If all these unique entries are attached to one bib it will
certainly be less confusing to patrons and library staff alike, and will
eliminate unnecessary records. To do this you should look at b24075218, and
when you transfer your library's item to this bib, it is crucial that you
insert a volume field in the item record that states the year of your
edition. (If you are aware of a better bib than the above, let me know.)

If you have any suggestions for future authors and/or titles please send
them on to me; I will add them to the list. And of course, contact me if
you have any questions.

Thanks,
Ellen
