Dear Catalogers,
The minutes for the Sept. 21 catalogers meeting included a typographical
error that most definitely needs to be corrected. Please note that under
the paragraph "Children's headings", the second sentence should read: "...
LC will continue to use these for fiction, but not *nonfiction*."
In response to the discussion that took place at the meeting
regarding attaching paperback books to hardcover records, I was contacted by
Karen Jones from LPL who recommends a guide titled "Differences between
changes within : guidelines on when to create a new record". A .pdf version
of this is available online from ALA; the URL is:
http://www.ala.org/ala/alctscontent/alctspubsbucket/webpublications/cataloging/newrecord/differences.htm
It is a great resource that is worth saving for future reference.
*Announcement:* I would like to advise everyone that Maine InfoNet
currently has an intern who is working primarily with me on cataloging
projects. Jenifer "Jeni" Lewis of Winthrop, ME (not to be confused with
Jennifer Lewis from the Augusta Schools!) is a library science student at
UMA, and she will be with us for the next few months. At this time Jeni is
working on a deduping project; don't be surprised if she contacts you with
questions about annual serials in your library. Jeni may be contacted at
jenifer.lewis at maine.edu Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ellen
