Hi Ellen,

I can't see just yet how this would help...it would be one more thing to
have to remember, when there is so much already. It's hard enough
ensuring that the non-standard material types we have now are used
properly. What would this do that the genre heading 'Graphic novels'
doesn't?

Rebecca

Subject
[MinervaCats] material types & graphic novels

Dear catalogers,

The subject of material types in the bibliographic record was discussed at
the most recent meeting of the Minerva Cataloging Standards Committee on
Aug. 24. Among other issues, it was noted that the type "d" is labeled
"MS music", and currently none of the Minerva libraries uses this
designation. The Committee is also studying the genre of Graphic Novels
and in the discussion it was suggested that this genre should be given its
own material type.

The Committee would like to hear comments from Minerva catalogers about
changing material type "d" from MS music to Graphic Novel. Do you think
this change would be beneficial, or do you have an objection? Please post
your replies to the MinervaCats list.

Thanks,
Ellen
