[MinervaCats] [MINERVA-L] Scope update

Yes. Sorry, I should have made this clearer: for those libraries who
have a children's scope, the bib location for juvenile titles has
changed. For example lpl should use lplj. Sppj is the only one I think
I need to clarify, all other are your three letter code, plus j. This
is due to the way that scope menus are setup, each must include a bib
location in addition to item locations. Because juvenile & adult
locations were included in the original bib location codes (lpl), we had
to separate out juvenile and give them a new bib location (lplj).
Otherwise, the bib displays for adult titles (without item holdings)
would continue to appear in all search results for the kids scope.
The implementation manager at III told me he will be in early tomorrow
and will work on this first thing. I just sent him an updated list of
all the new bib locations. Once he fixes the scopes and re-enables
them, it might be a good idea to verify that all of your
children's/juvenile/YA locations are actually showing up in OPAC
searches. The list of item locations is at Admin > Parameter > General
> Branches. If you need permission to view that, let me know. If you
find any omissions, please let me know, and I will get it fixed before
we close the ticket.
Again, I want to thank everyone for their patience as we have worked
through this.

Does this mean that every time we add a Children's item to the database
we should use the new bib location code (e.g. lplj plus lpl)?
Thanks for your clarification.

I finally got through to a manager in the implementation group at III,
which is responsible for the scope setup. In the short term, the new
scopes have been suppressed so they not longer appear in the OPAC &
therefore will not be available to confuse patrons over the weekend.
The whole problem is due to the fact that they never told me that a
scope requires that a bib location be included. I gave them the
existing bib locations, those include all adult & juvenile materials,
which is the cause of the problems we've all been seeing. The
alternative is to create new bib locations which will be associated with
only those item locations included in the juvenile scopes. I'll need to
create those new bib locations and update a table on the server that
links the bib & item locations. An automatic link maintenance program
that runs overnight should update all associated bib records. First
thing Monday morning, III will be able to update the scope menus again &
unsuppress them, and then hopefully all this will be behind us.
Here are the new bib location codes I'll be creating:
aplj, bflj, bmlj, cmlj, fmlj, gplj, hobj, jmlj, litj, lplj, ludj, norj,
oplj, otpj, pflj, pitj, ricj, rocj, rplj, sjcj, sppj, tmlj, tplj, unij,
wlkj, warj, welj, wplj
