[MinervaCats] FW: [MELIBS-L] ALA Resolution and Minerva cataloging

Hi, I'm forwarding this message that was sent to MELIBs as it does not
pertain to the great majority of subscribers to MELIBs.

I hope that everyone has seen and read Dean's message regarding state
library funding cuts as he give a great explanation of the current
funding situation at the state library.

I want to make sure that everyone understands that what is being cut is
training in how to catalog (understanding MARC records, subject
headings, etc.). There will still be support for using the cataloging
module and Minerva-specific standards, just as there is for the
circulation module and Minerva lending policies.

Thanks,
Deb

Subject: [MELIBS-L] ALA Resolution and Minerva cataloging

How ironic that we should hear about the ALA resolution supporting more
resources for
cataloging on the same day that Deb Hensler announced the reduction in
Minerva cataloging
support.

I am very concerned about the news from Deb. The success of Minerva is
based on the
quality of its records, not just the number of participants. I hope we
can revisit this decision in
the coming year.

Nancy
