Hi, some reminders on lists.....
*****Featured Lists*****
When looking at the list of Featured Lists today
(http://minerva.maine.edu/ftlist), I saw two that shouldn't be there.
One was titled "Unnamed" (I've emptied that list) and the other is
called "CAM PL mismatched 7-20-08."
What happened is that libraries were using a slot for a Featured List,
emptied the slot, but did not ask me to remove it as a Featured List. So
the slot is still "Featured" even though it's empty and available for
others to use. Luckily, the libraries that used the slots (with no way
of knowing they were still "Featured") did not use them for a list that
included confidential patron information. Camden PL created a great list
for use by their staff; even though there's nothing harmful in that
list, I'm sure it wasn't intended to be included as a Featured List.
Anyone who clicks on a link to a Featured List has access to all of the
Featured Lists in Minerva -- click on
http://minerva.maine.edu/search/ftlist%5Ebib256%2C1%2C0%2C66/mode=2 (a
TML Featured List) and you see a button for Featured Lists.
So, please do not empty a Featured List slot until you have asked me to
remove it as a Featured List -- I'd hate to see that a library has
inadvertently used the slot for a list called "Bad Patrons," listing all
of their patrons who owe money!
*****Lists in General*****
Please remember to name your lists correctly (3-letter library code at
the beginning; include a description and date created).
Do not take ownership of a list unless it is a Featured List or is being
used for your entire collection. The policy currently states that each
library may "own" one slot large enough to hold their entire collection.
(That policy needs to be looked at, though, because we do not have
enough large slots for each library own one. I release slots that people
have taken ownership of that they shouldn't so that the list can be
moved, if necessary, to another slot.)
Empty your lists when you no longer need them. Every Minerva library has
to share those slots, and it is frustrating for people who need a list
to not be able to find one large enough.
Thanks,
Deb
