Hey everyone,
Bonnie Collins is going to polish off the bib records for these
(original Parenting record, The Early Years and the School Years)
tomorrow just as soon as they come back from Authority Processing.

I think the cataloger left the closing date off the end because he or
she didn't know exactly when it ended (see the 2nd 362 field, and AACR2
1.4F8). So, that part seems right to me. There are also fields linking
the old record to the new ones (b26936136 and b26968848 ) and vice
versa, but there won't be anything in the title index to direct people
from one title to the other, you have to look in the bibs themselves for
that. The links will show up in the OPAC. And yep, the new records
will need check-in cards.
Lol, I'll try to look at serials that way from now on, that's nicer than
thinking of all the changes as something that publishers do to torment
librarians.

RE: [MinervaCats] Parenting Magazine
I took one course in serials cataloging in the mid 70s (Yikes-that's
over 30 years ago!!), and I do remember the instructor saying that
serials were a lot like families...splitting, marrying, dying, having
children, etc. I also remember that she rolled her eyes a lot in the
course....
I believe that Parenting should be closed (2009 added after the -) with
cross references made to the new magazines, and there should be 2 new
bib records-one for each of the new titles-each with a check in card
attached....
Does that sound right? :-)

Whoops--you brought in Parenting : school years, and someone else
brought in Parenting : early years. They should be cataloged
separately, if I didn't make that clear in the last message--(I have
always hated serials cataloging).

I'm waiting to see how the other catalogers want to handle this (It's a
cataloging issue) I will keep you posted. I have all of the issues on
the
cataloging cart right now to remind me to nag my cataloging buds
tomorrow or
Friday.
