The bib records in this file are b26831016 - b26845787. Please do not edit these bib records until after 12:00 am, Thursday, March 5. (You may still attach items to these bibs.) In order to make these bibs easier for catalogers to identify I have inserted a 949 field in each one that states "IN AUTHORITY PROCESSING". This field will be deleted after the bibs are reloaded. Everything in Minerva by musician/songwriter Cat Stevens has been entered under Yusuf Islam which is not entirely correct. On the Yusuf Islam authority record Stevens, Cat is given a "see also" reference which appears in Minerva as "Stevens, Cat see also Islam, Yusuf." This means that Stevens is used as the main entry (MARC 100 1 field) if the music being cataloged was produced before 1980 when he changed his name to Yusuf. B13990810 is a good example. This is a record for a CD containing works of Stevens released between 1967 and 1978. The main entry should not be under Islam but under Stevens even though the date on the inserted booklet is 2000. I am going to correct this record (apl and rpl are also attached) later today but those libraries holding works by Stevens need to double check and be sure the entries on your records are correct. Hope this is clear. Bonnie Collins -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Morgan asked about changing material type "d" to accomodate Blu-Rays. Blu-Rays are another format of a videorecording as MP3s are another format of a sound recording. We opted not to add MP3s as a distinct material type, so perhaps should be consistent (or even re-visit the MP3 question?) There are other complications coming, however. There has been such an underwhelming consumer response to the Blu-Ray format that an increasing number of studios are packaging a standard DVD copy of the movie with new high-definition Blu-Ray releases, particularly on family titles in an attempt to change consumer habits and boost sales of Blu- Ray. Some studios have announced they will include a separate digital copy on a disc packed inside these packages. The digital copies can be transferred directly to a computer or iPod for viewing. Among the studios are Disney, MGM, Lionsgate, and Fox Entertainment. You'll recognize the titles: Marley and Me, Pinocchio, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Princess Bride, etc. What material type would we assign to these mulitpaks? Susan > 2. Change the existing bibliographical material type "d" from "ms > music" to "Blu-Ray". Ms music is a material type that is not being > used in the Minerva catalog. I merged two exact matches to b21663646 when I added tce's copy. Wlk has a paperbound copy attached to a separate bib # 25001309-- a different LC # but no isbn 020 field to compare and a copyright date of 2003-is this correct? I see in the cip that there is a layflat paperback edition with the isbn 1-557666717 in addition to the isbn for the edition we have-1557667950. There's no mention of an earlier edition in 2003. Could you check to see if all that's needed is to add the "paperbound" isbn to the fuller record and then the item record could be transferred and # 25001309 could be deleted. Thanks, Katie Katie M. I've been asked to catalog a binder with one portion of the Learning Results for use by EMCC students in our Early Childhood program. I have created a bib record b26851258, but this is definitely something that shouldn't be requestable. I can take care of that in the item record. However, I welcome any suggestions on how to handle and describe this item. I copied some info from another learning results record. This is a new one for me. Thanks for any help you can give me. Because of the varied uses of this status, the display value has been changed from "owns" to the slightly more descriptive "unavailable". Most uses of "owns" reflect a temporary status that removes an item from all forms of circulation (such as a temporary library shut-down, or items going into temporaryl/non-retrievable storage, or the original usage, a new library being loaded into the system) so this value seemed to cover the use cases provided. Katherine The committee sent a memo out to MinervaCats in February for the following three items: Changes in status code for ?In Tech Serv? 1. Change the item record status "e" ("In Tech Serv") to a nonrequestable status. This would prevent the requesting of items that have various problems that prevent them from circulating. Currently, the other item statuses that are nonrequestable are q- owns (only Maine InfoNet staff can use this), $ - paid, z ?claims returned, m ? missing, l-lost, s- on search, n- billed, w- withdraw shelf, k ? online, and o ? library use only. Change for material type ?d? 2. Change the existing bibliographical material type "d" from "ms music" to "Blu-Ray". Ms music is a material type that is not being used in the Minerva catalog. Blu-Ray discs are growing in popularity, and it is felt that a dedicated material type will help to distinguish them from DVDs and VHS tapes. Adding a material type for ?equipment? 3. Add a new material type for "equipment". We have noticed a growing number of items being added to the catalog, such as MP3 players, headphones, remote controls, etc., and believe that there should be a material type for this general category of items. We appreciate all the comments everyone sent to the committee and we will use the comments and suggestions as we discuss changes in status codes, and changes in material types. In addition, the committee will discuss defining the status codes and how they should be used by libraries. During their March meeting, the Executive Committee decided it would be helpful to have the cataloging and circulation committees? work together to avoid overlapping and conflicting procedures/best practices. We will be working with the circulation committee to implement this decision by the Executive Committee. Katherine R. In order to make these bibs easier for catalogers to identify I have inserted a 949 field in each one that states "IN AUTHORITY PROCESSING". This field will be deleted after the bibs are reloaded.
