I'm wondering the same thing and agree that it is not a good idea.
Different editions require a new record.

I wasn't able to get to the meeting, so I guess I'll find out when I get
the DVD version, but--
The 260 field is intended to be repeatable for "multipart monographs,
serials, and integrating resources," not regular monographs...why did we
decide to apply it to reprints/new editions of regular single-volume
monographs as well? This doesn't seem like a good idea (or am I missing
something? Maybe I just need to be patient and wait for the minutes...
:) )

[MinervaCats] Repeatable 260 field in b24126317
Hi Cats,
I just added an item to this large print "Einstein", and noticed that
the repeated 260 was
missing the "3" at the first indicator and had a subfield c "2007". I
added the "3" and knocked
out the date as we were told at the Catalogers meeting Tuesday, and
because my item was
the one reflected by the second 260, I added an 020 for my item.
Of course the first indicator is bright red now, so anyone who didn't
attend Tuesday's meeting
will be likely to knock it out.
Just wanted to be sure that I got this right.
