<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">I think the cataloger left the closing
date off the end because he or she didn't know exactly when it ended (see
the 2nd 362 field, and AACR2 1.4F8). So, that part seems right to
me. There are also fields linking the old record to the new ones
(b26936136 and b26968848 ) and vice versa, but there won't be anything
in the title index to direct people from one title to the other, you have
to look in the bibs themselves for that. The links will show up in
the OPAC. And yep, the new records will need check-in cards.</font>

way from now on, that's nicer than thinking of all the changes as something
that publishers do to torment librarians.</font>

cataloging in the mid 70s (Yikes—that’s over 30 years ago!!), and I do
remember the instructor saying that serials were a lot like families...splitting,
marrying, dying, having children, etc. I also remember that she rolled
