Subject: [MLTI-HS] MLTI 21st Century High School Teacher Tools and
Resources [internal-from_ADV?]
Importance: High

Greetings,

We do hope that you are enjoying the summer. We are excited to meet with
you and your leadership team to discuss the expansion of the Maine
Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) to our high schools and career and
technical education centers. This initiative is a critical next step in
supporting Maine's educators to prepare all secondary students for
college, career, and citizenship in the 21st century. Educators in
grades 9-12 will receive professional development, equipment, and
support, beginning with the 2007-2008 school year.

The technology tools available through the MLTI Project will support
state-wide literacy and numeracy efforts and promote 21st century
strategies for improved learning opportunities for our students. MLTI
staff will be convening professional learning opportunities in all
regions of the state throughout the school year. These meetings will
ensure understanding of the scope, context, and agreements of this
important initiative, and serve to reinforce that this is a learning
initiative rather than simply a laptop distribution program.
Additionally, administrators and their school-based leadership teams
will have opportunities to collaborate with other high schools, and
career and technical education centers, on planning and implementing
literacy and numeracy programs connected to systemic secondary school
redesign, in support of Maine's Learning Results.

For the initial regional meetings, school-based leadership teams are
being asked to convene in each of the 9 superintendent regions. Each
school-based leadership team should include 5 members: the principal,
librarian, technology coordinator and two teacher-leaders (one of whom
should be designated as the MLTI stipended Teacher Leader). At this
first meeting we will seek feedback from your team that will guide us as
we plan meaningful, appropriate, and supportive professional development
for your staff.

Important notes:
*	It is crucial for every principal to be present at the initial
regional meetings to receive the administrative passwords for their
school.
*	Leadership team members should each bring a new MLTI device to
their meeting.
*	Please bring copies of any documents that reflect the plans you
have for your school during the 07-08 school year.
