Approved requests made by Friday, September 1, 2006 will be fulfilled
from currently unallocated devices. Approved requests made after
September 1, 2006 will be fulfilled when devices become available.
Schools with overages will be asked to return additional devices to
the Department of Buffer Pool as directed by the Department.
Dear MLTI Schools,
A number of schools have made requests to the Department for
additional student or staff devices due to increases in enrollment
and/or unexpected hires. The Department will work to fulfill all
requests, but in order to do so equitably all schools must help.
Please adhere to the following protocols so that we can help ensure
that all eligible students and staff are allocated an MLTI device.
1) Inventory the laptop computers shipped to your school. Make sure
that for each device listed in the MLTI Asset Manager, you have a
matching device. Make sure that for every device you were shipped,
you have a matching record in the MLT Asset Manager. This inventory
should be completed no later than September 7, 2006. Schools will be
responsible for inventories as listed on September 8, 2006.
* If you have devices with no matching Asset Manager
record, please send the device's Asset Tag number and Serial number
to mlti.project at maine.gov.
* If you have Asset Manager records with no matching
device, please send the Asset Tag number to mlti.project at maine.gov.
2) Assign devices in the Asset Manager to students or staff. For each
user, please enter the user's MEDMS ID in the "User ID" field. For
staff, this is a 6 digit number. For students, this is a 9 digit
number. For the "Assignment" field, use "Student" for students, and
"Faculty" for teachers. The "Staff" choice may be used for non-
teaching staff who are assigned devices (ie Principal).
*Pay special attention to the "Purchased by:" information
listed in the device detail. Devices purchased locally by schools
using local funds will read "School". These devices should be
assigned to Faculty/Staff so that they are not transfered to another
school if a student moves.
*Pay special attention to the "Admin" field. Devices marked
"spare" are issued to schools to maintain service levels. These
devices should not be assigned to anyone except for temporary use
when the primary device is being repaired.
*The "Location" and "Custom" fields may be used by schools
in any manner to aid with local management.
3) Only assign faculty and staff devices if they were approved by the
Department. If you do not have a list of approved faculty and staff,
please request the list by emailing mlti.project at maine.gov.
4) If your school requires additional devices for students, please
email mlti.project at maine.gov. Please provide the following information:
* School Name
* School MEDMS ID
* Total Number of Students enrolled in grades 7-8
* Total Number of devices currently assigned to Faculty,
Staff, and Students (this information is displayed in the Asset Manager)
5) If your school requires additional faculty/staff devices, please
resubmit an MLTI Staff Roster Form (http://www.maine.gov/mlti/
deployment.htm) to mlti.project at maine.gov
