Dear MLTI Schools,
Network upgrades and/or installations will occur in schools beginning
in September, 2006. The upgrades/installations are dependent on
information gathered through the MLTI Asset Manager in the School/
Wireless Readiness Checklist. As outlined in both Tech Update #21 and
22, schools must complete these online checklists before Apple can
schedule a site visit to determine what work needs to be done to
ensure proper network operation.
At this time, many schools have not yet begun this process. It is
critical that this information is collected from schools quickly.
Schools that complete this information earlier will also have their
network installations scheduled earlier. Schools without a wireless
network now should will be a priority once the Checklists are
complete. The complete newsletters can be found at http://
assets.mlti.org. Below is an excerpt from Tech Update #22 showing the
Checklist instructions. Login information for the MLTI Asset Manager
was mailed via US Postal in August to your school's Deployment
Contact. If your school did not receive the mailing, please call the
Apple Project Office, (207) 688-4501.
Thank you,
MLTI Staff
WIRELESS READINESS CHECKLISTS
---------------------------------------
[5] Overview
The Wireless Readiness Checklists in the MLTI Asset Manager must be
completed in order for Apple to begin the process of upgrading/
installing your wireless networks. You can access this system at
http://assets.mlti.org. You will receive your login information in a
letter mailed to the contact person(s) provided to the DOE during opt-
in. Please be sure to keep the username and password for your
records. When you are logging in, there is a field for a security
code. The security code is displayed above this field in the cross-
hatched box.
Once you log in to the MLTI Asset Manager, please complete the
requested information for the areas below by clicking on the links in
the modules box on the left-hand side of your web browser window :
*Contact Information
*Building Information
*Network Information
*Room Approvals
[6] Contact Information
Ensure that your school's address and the contact information for
your principal, lead teacher, and tech lead is updated in the asset
manager. If you need to update the school address, please contact the
Department of Education MLTI Project Office, mlti.project at maine.gov,
(207) 624 6746 to have it updated. You may update your principal,
lead teacher, and tech lead yourself in the asset manager. After the
contact information is approved it will no longer be editable and if
changes need to be made you will need to contact the Department of
Education MLTI Project Office.
[7] Network Information
Please complete all questions in the Network Information section. It
is imperative that this information is completed correctly to allow
for a smooth, fast, installation.
As part of your network install, base stations may be moved or
removed in order to provide proper coverage with the new equipment.
Alterations that you have made to the network will be returned to as-
installed condition per site survey results. If you do not want your
alterations adjusted, please do not select “yes” for the “Do you want
an Apple-installed wireless network?” question. The Department of
Education highly recommends that all schools select “yes”.
If you are also interested in any additional coverage outside of the
MLTI contract, paid for by your local school system, please specify
your interest by adding details in the text box under the “Do you
want an Apple-installed wireless network?” question in the Network
Information section. If you have questions regarding additional
coverage or wireless network upgrades please just indicate in the
text box that you are interested in talking with an Apple
Representative and we will contact you directly.
[8] Room Approvals
In the Room Approvals section, please include all of the following
areas:
*all primary 7th and 8th grade instructional classrooms
*administrative spaces
*frequently used study areas
*library-media center
*school assembly spaces
Wireless coverage in areas other than primary instructional
classrooms will be designed to accommodate user populations similar
to those in a regular instructional classroom situation, (i.e. 25
users per classroom)
In situations where it is determined that a room is not included in
this list, and you would like it to be covered you may choose to
expand your school's coverage at your own expense using our optional
equipment offering.
If you do want an Apple-supported network and are also interested in
any additional work outside of the MLTI contract, paid for by your
local school system, please specify your interest by adding details
in the text box under the “Do you want an Apple-installed wireless
network?” question in the Network Information section. If you have
questions regarding additional coverage or wireless network upgrades
please just indicate in the text box that you are interested in
talking with an Apple Representative and we will contact you directly.
