Dear MLTI Schools,

If your network infrastructure has not been updated yet, please note
the following important points:

1) Schools which submitted their Wireless Network Readiness Checklist
data by the initial Oct. 31, 2006 deadline are on target for network
upgrade completion by the mid-February target date. Schools that did
not complete their data submissions by the Oct. 31, 2006 deadline
will likely have their network upgraded after the mid-February target
date. All network data must be submitted no later than January 15,
2007. If data is not submitted in the correct form by January 15,
2007, your school's network may not be upgraded by MLTI.

2) To expedite the data submission process, please follow these
simple guidelines:
	a) Room Approvals - Please enter each instructional space used by
7/8th grade students and the associated MLTI approved teacher. Do not
list the same space more than once even if multiple MLTI approved
teachers use the space. If you have teachers who teach 7/8th graders
(any FTE%) and were never submitted to the MLTI Project Office for
approval (ie they were not issued an MLTI laptop), please do so
immediately. For each teacher that needs to be approved, please email
to jeff.mao at maine.gov the same spreadsheet form that was used last
summer, "Staff Roster Spreadsheet" downloadable from http://
www.maine.gov/mlti/deployment/.
	b) Floor Plan - Please ensure that the uploaded floor plan of your
school has each room labeled using the same labels that you entered
into the Room Approvals list. This allows us to match room
submissions to actual rooms on the floor plan.
	c) Network Information - When entering IP Address information for
the question, "Please enter the following information to be used for
installing your wireless access points?", ensure that the IP
Addresses listed are available to be used by the new Airport Extreme
Base Stations. Your existing Airport Base Stations will be removed
from service. Do not include IP Addresses that are already in use by
other network devices as this will create an IP Address conflict, and
your school will have to change those other devices as the MLTI
Network configurations cannot be changed.

3) When your network wiring is scheduled, you will receive an email
notification with information on the next steps once your SRC data is
approved. At this time, you can login to the MLTI Asset Manager and
download the "Eval Map" from the Network Assets module. This map will
display where new wires will be run, existing wires will be used, and
what rooms are covered by what base stations. Some Airport Extreme
Base Stations will cover more than one room, so do not expect that
for each approved room, your wireless network will have one new
Airport Extreme Base Station. Please note that the Eval Map may
change as the wiring team continues to review and approve the plan.
We recommend that you redownload the map if needed on the day of the
actual wiring appointment.

4) If your school's site visit has not yet been scheduled, please
check the Network Installation Status module of the MLTI Asset
Manager to determine if your school's data is complete and approved.
If any data are missing, please submit that data as soon as possible.
If data is submitted, but not approved, please verify that it
conforms to the guidelines noted in #2 above.

5) It is critically important that your accurately note whether or
not your middle school has asbestos in the building -- anywhere!
Please be prepared to provide your official Asbestos Survey to the
wiring team upon arrival at your school.

6) In the event the project team has questions regarding your data
submissions, they will contact the Tech Lead as listed in the Asset
Manager for clarification. Please ensure that your Tech Lead's email
address is correct in the Asset Manager. Corrections to the contact
information should be sent to Jeff Mao, jeff.mao at maine.gov.

If you have questions about your wireless network upgrade, please
direct them to Jeff Mao, jeff.mao at maine.gov, 207-624-6634 at the MLTI
Project Office. Please include your school's MEDMS ID number in any
written correspondence.

Thank you,
Jeff
