Maine Learning Technology Foundation to Match Districts on 256MB iBook Upgrade
In conjunction with ACTEM, former Maine Governor Angus King has announced that the Maine Learning Technology Foundation will match local districts and school departments for the cost of upgrading the existing first-round MLTI iBooks only from 128mb to 384mb. Qualifying school purchase orders can now be submitted to ACTEM listing the cost of 256mb RAM modules at $15 each. MLTF will match that $15 covering the $30 cost of the module. The price of the 512mb upgrade option remains at $80 and is not eligible for matching funds.
"Our hope is this program will provide additional incentive to districts and schools to keep these devices in action, either in their high schools or in the lower grades," stated Governor King in an email.
In order to receive the $15 pricing, schools are required to submit a letter signed by the Superintendent verifying that the number of 256mb modules ordered at $15 will be used in schools in their school district during the 2006-2007 school year. A form to facilitate this requirement will be posted at the ACTEM website soon. Schools may continue to purchase 256mb modules for $30 from ACTEM for machines that do not meet this requirement.
Due to this change in circumstances, ACTEM has pushed back the deadline for their first RAM bulk buy to next Wednesday, June 28 at 1:00 pm. Purchase orders with a July date are acceptable and delivery by July 14 is probable. The deadline to purchase Apple System 10.4 Tiger licenses for $39 has also been extended to Wednesday noon. If there is enough interest, ACTEM now plans a second bulk buy of RAM for July 27 with pricing still estimated at $30 ($15 with MLTF eligible RAM) for the 256mb and $84 for the 512mb. Delivery is estimated at or around August 8. Schools interested in taking advantage of the July purchase are encouraged to contact ACTEM.
Orders and verification letters should be faxed to ACTEM Business Manager Craig Dickinson at 641-2556 or mailed to P.O. Box 910, Moody, ME 04054. For further information email cdickinson at actem.org or call 646-2918.
