The Middle Level Education Institute was founded to provide a significant professional development experience for Maine educators to improve schools with middle grades by focusing on all aspects of young adolescent learning, growth, and development.

As a concentrated time to meet with a group and problem solve issues that can’t be addressed during the school year,” MLEI provides teams and individuals critical support from experts in middle level education and technology integration. This Maine tradition attracts educators from Maine and across the globe who come to explore the latest research-based practices about teaching young adolescents. Participants immerse themselves in self - designed projects benefiting their students while earning graduate credits or CEUs. Alumni of the Institute have themselves become nationally recognized middle level experts.

Middle level educators will recognize MLEI consultants Nancy Doda, Patti Kinney, Theresa Hinkle, and Mark Springer as national experts. Renown authors Rick Wormeli and Brenda Dyck will join MLEI via live video conferencing. Institute participants will collaborate with Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) technology integrators and other digital learning experts.

Co-directors Chris Toy and Jill Spencer believe Institute participants will agree with a past attendee’s comment, “I keep going back to MLEI because it inspires me for the next school year! It’s awesome, from learning new teaching strategies to new technology.”

To register, call Mikaela Ziobro at 207-859-1211 or email her at campusevents@thomas.edu.
