From Peter.Bernard at maine.gov Mon Aug 25 15:39:53 2008 From: Peter.Bernard at maine.gov (Bernard, Peter) Date: Mon, 25 Aug 2008 15:39:53 -0400 Subject: [PAAP] Notice regarding Partial PAAPs Message-ID: <32E5C6B0B949584D9B6168C5F727916B03CA7D45@SOM-TEAQASMAIL1.som.w2k.state.me.us> Hello Everyone, Hope you have found time to relax and enjoy the summer despite less than optimum weather conditions. Kim, Peter, and I have been working to prepare new materials for 2008 and 2009. New tasks have been posted in the Task Bank throughout the summer, the Rubrics have been posted and re-posted as minor edits were made, and the 2008-2009 Manual will be ready for the Web site shortly. During the summer, we also made a request to the United States Department of Education USDE) that we be allowed to reinstitute the use of "partial PAAPs". Last Thursday, USDE staff members approved that request! We are pleased that the IEP teams making decisions about how a student will participate in state assessments will be able to do it BY CONTENT AREA. We feel that this will provide much more appropriate measures for those students who do have much more significant disabilities in one content area than another. If this change will affect IEP decisions already made for this year, you may make the IEP amendments without a face-to-face meeting, but rather through the use of the process available for making relatively small amendments to an IEP. Please make sure you document such a change in student records. Kim will include training relative to this change in the upcoming all trainings. If you have not yet registered, please check the PAAP Web site (www.mecas.org/paap) to get registration information.
