The workshops are designed for special education teachers and directors, educational technicians, administrators, and general education teachers participating in a PAAP assessment. Due to the number of changes in this year's assessment, we strongly recommend you attend. This year there will be four PAAP training sessions taking place during the month of November in Presque Isle, Bangor, Augusta, and Portland. However, due to Maine's switch from Maine Educational Assessment (MEA) to NECAP testing in reading and mathematics for 2009-10, a unique situation exists during this transition year for some students who have or will be participating in alternate assessment. Although they may have participated in testing, partial or no pertinent testing scores will be available for use in the 2009 NECAP reporting. These students include those who: * Are 3rd grade students who would have participated in a PAAP in second grade last year (due to the switch from the MEA to the NECAP program, no PAAPs were available) and will take a Full or Partial PAAP this year. * Participated in a Partial PAAP last year and will participate in a Full PAAP this year, based on the students' IEPs. * Participated in the MEA last year and will take a Full or Partial PAAP this year. * Other School principals should notify the Department of Education for a student who meets one of the above criteria by: * completing the attached notification of PAAP transition year special consideration form, explaining why no pertinent testing scores are available from last year, * confirming that a partial PAAP was authorized for last year and a full or partial PAAP has been authorized for this year according to the student's IEP, * signing and faxing the form to the Maine Department of Education at 207-624-6771. <<0910_PAAP_transition_notification_worksheet.pdf>> The deadline for receipt of the form is October 22, 2009. Previous experience with the PAAP is not required. Participants are selected based on randomly based on the content area being reviewed. Not all individuals are selected every time and therefore you will be asked if you'd like to participate. Recertification credits can be earned with pre-approval through your local support team. Please check with your local support teams to see if you are eligible to earn recertification credits. For every 15 hours you put into these committees you can earn 1 credit (up to 45 hours can be earned for a total of 3 credits). Preauthorization is required to earn credits. The committees will be comprised of core content and special education experts from elementary, middle and high school, as well as administrators and other specialists. These experts will be grouped by content area and grade level. The Task Review Committee's goal/charge will be threefold: 1. To review/revise newly developed assessment tasks aligned to the AGLE/Indicator. 2. To ensure that assessment tasks maintain reliability with regard to the AGLEs assessed. 3. Ensure that students with significant cognitive disabilities have access to the assessment through multiple activities at varying levels of cognitive complexity.
