[Solar-L] Neat tip-cataloging

Hi folks,

I've been meaning to post this for a couple weeks after discovering some of
the minerva catalogers weren't aware of it. When cataloging and using a
scanner, the Millennium software now recognizes many of the UPC codes that
start with 978 on the back of books. This is particularly true of brand new
ones and older children's books. Makes cataloging a heck of a lot faster.
It works both in Solar and in Z39.50. If you go to Z39.50 after not getting
a hit in Solar, and still don't find a record, do the following: delete the
first 3 digits (the 978) and change the last digit to match the last one on
the ISBN and you're good to go. I cataloged about 70 donated books this
afternoon in between patrons, etc.

Regards, from Hahtland
